The Nigeria medical association (NMA), Kano state branch, has said that members of its associations operating across the state will remain on duty despite the ongoing organised labour strike.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday, in Kano, the secretary of the association, Dr. Abdurrahman Ali, defied the ongoing NLC/TUC strike and called on all members of the association to discharge their duties effectively and accordingly.
“We are a professional body and we are not part of NLC so we are not embarking on any strike action.
“All doctors and medical practitioners will be on duty at their various hospitals. This may not be 100 per cent but we are not part of it. Of course, you may go there and discover that the person to bring out your file is also away but our members are on the ground,” Dr. Ali said.
Some patients at a few public hospitals visited around the Kano metropolis, however, appear stranded as most units provided only skeletal services in the absence of other staff.
The ongoing, indefinite strike, declared by the leadership of the organized labour in Nigeria, has grounded most activities nationwide including critical sectors like the aviation and power industries, as reported by Trust TV.
