Residents of Ya-Bawa, Maburya, Ragada, Kura’a, and Kumbashi in Mariga LGA, Niger State, fled their homes on Monday following fresh attacks by armed bandits.
In Rijau, the attackers reportedly stormed the town around 2pm and kidnapped several people. Witnesses said over 200 bandits arrived on motorcycles, forcing many to escape through the hills and across River Maroro into Kebbi State.
As of Monday afternoon, many displaced residents were taking refuge in Gulbin Boka with little or no food.
Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brig. Gen. Bello Abdullahi (rtd), confirmed the attacks, saying efforts were underway to push back the bandits.
