The Kano State Hisbah Board says it has arrested 62 people during a raid in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.
Deputy Commandant of the board, Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed the arrests in a telephone interview with journalists on Monday.
He explained that the suspects — 27 men and 35 women — were picked up on Sunday in a joint operation with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) training centre.
According to him, the raid followed an intelligence report from residents. He added that the suspects were allegedly taking advantage of the heavy rainfall to engage in what the board described as “immoral activities.”
Aminudeen said the Hisbah will not tolerate violations of Shari’a law and urged members of the public to continue reporting such cases.
He also disclosed that a similar operation was carried out at Tamburawa Bridge, where more arrests were made.
The deputy commandant noted that all the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
