SIX LABOUR PARTY LAWMAKERS DEFECT TO THE PDP.

Six members of the labour party (LP) in the Enugu state house of assembly have defected to the people’s democratic party (PDP).

The lawmakers made their decision known on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, in Enugu. In a letter read by the speaker of the house of assembly, Honourable Uche Ugwu, during plenary at the assembly legislative complex.

According to the defectors, the move resulted from the “existence of irreconcilable division, an ongoing crisis within the labour party at the national level, and across all the state chapters.

They alleged that the party has evolved into a state of perpetual discord with various factions embroiled in legal battles thereby undermining its ability to effectively serve the interest of the people.

The defectors expressed their optimism, that their new party, PDP, will give them the platform to serve their people.

The defecting members include; the chief whip, member representing Igbo-Eze North constituency 1, Hon Ejike Ezeh, Member representing Nsukka East, Pius Onyekachi Ezugwu, Deputy chief whip, member representing, Enugu South Rural, Princess Obiajulu Ugwu, member representing Oji River, Osita Eze, member representing Igbo-Etiti West, Engr. William Amuka and member representing Enugu North Urban, Johnson Ani.

With this defection, the PDP now has 18 house members in the house and the LP delegation reduced to Six members.
