The Department of State Services (DSS) has released the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, on “administrative bail.” The Labour leader was reportedly picked up by operatives of the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while he was on his way to the United Kingdom.
A source close to the NLC leadership confirmed the news, saying “the Comrade President has just been released. He was released at about 11.10pm.” The Labour Movement has expressed concern over his whereabouts and state of health.
Many groups, CSOs, Activists and personalities had condemned his arrest and also called for his release.
Also confirming the news of Ajaero’s release, journalist and activist, Omoyele Sowore, wrote on social media, “BREAKING: The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released the @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail.”
