The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed its affiliate unions and state chapters to begin mass mobilization ahead of a nationwide protest on February 4, 2025, against the recent 50% increase in telecom tariffs.
NLC President Joe Ajaero announced the decision on Wednesday after a meeting of the National Administrative Council (NAC) in Abuja, condemning the tariff hike as “insensitive and unjustifiable.”
“The rally will serve as a warning on the dangers of imposing such an unfair increase on Nigerians already struggling with high fuel prices, food inflation, and rising electricity tariffs,” Ajaero stated.
The NLC has called on the federal government, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and the National Assembly to engage in meaningful dialogue to address the concerns. It warned that failure to reverse the hike could lead to further mass action, including a possible boycott of telecom services.
