Bishop Matthew Kukah has warned that rising insecurity in Nigeria is worsening the country’s mental health crisis.
Speaking at the commissioning of projects at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Kware, Sokoto, Kukah said violence and lack of access to healthcare are affecting people’s mental well-being, especially in the North.
“We are all vulnerable. Our women and children should not be dying due to poor access to care,” he said.
Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, who led the commissioning of 16 completed projects at the hospital, said the upgrades align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He also announced plans to provide fully-funded healthcare for one million vulnerable Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Health Connect initiative.
