Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group killed 15 people in Kwalajiya village, Tangaza LGA of Sokoto State, in a Tuesday afternoon attack believed to be a reprisal.
Locals said the attackers stormed the village during afternoon prayers, opening fire on worshippers and farmers. The assault followed the killing of three suspected group members in an earlier clash.
The attackers also burned farms, destroyed homes, and took down the community’s only communication mast, forcing residents to flee.
Sokoto Police Command confirmed the attack but said casualty details were still being verified. Seven others were injured and taken to the hospital.
Residents are calling on the government to urgently deploy more security to prevent further attacks.
