The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) has reported that 135 journalists faced physical attacks while on duty in 2024.
The figure was revealed on Monday in Abuja during a session on press freedom violations and legal challenges in journalism.
CJID’s Project Associate, Adebayo Aare, said the Press Attack Tracker platform documents such incidents to push for policy reforms.
Media experts at the event, including IPI President Musikilu Mojeed and Daily Trust Acting Editor-in-Chief Hamza Idris, highlighted how legal threats and harassment pressure journalists into self-censorship.
