The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, led senior members of his administration on a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development on Thursday, seeking a strategic partnership to improve the state’s livestock sector.
The Governor was received by the Minister, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, whom he congratulated on his appointment, describing it as well-deserved and timely.
In his address, Governor Lawal expressed his administration’s commitment to developing the livestock sector, revealing that plans were underway to transform the Gidan Jaji Grazing Reserve into an agricultural hub.
Governor Lawal also highlighted Zamfara State’s slogan, “Farming is our pride,” and emphasized the state’s agricultural potential.
“Zamfara is an agrarian economy, and our collaboration with the Ministry will help address challenges such as insecurity, while creating employment opportunities for our youth.
“By leveraging our resources and working closely with the Ministry, we aim to transform Zamfara into a model for livestock development in Nigeria,” Governor Lawal said.
In response, Minister Maiha commended Governor Lawal for being the first Nigerian governor to visit the Ministry and seek a partnership. He also acknowledged the livestock potential of Zamfara.
“The livestock sector holds immense potential, valued at approximately ₦33 trillion. Our mandate is to transform it into a vibrant and sustainable industry through genetic upgrades, disease control, infrastructure development, and the creation of disease-free zones.
“Zamfara, with its high cattle density and gazetted grazing reserves, is well-positioned to pilot key initiatives,” the Minister said.
