The Senate has denied claims that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension was linked to sexual harassment allegations, stating it was due to “gross misconduct” and violations of parliamentary rules.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele dismissed reports suggesting otherwise, saying she was found guilty of disrupting plenary, defying Senate rules, and ignoring committee summons.
The Senate also clarified that her petition, which some reports linked to the suspension, was dismissed for procedural issues, not its content.
It urged media outlets to correct misinformation, emphasizing that no senator is above the rules.
