The military high command has reiterated that airstrikes against criminals terrorizing the country are not aimed at civilians. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, emphasized this during an interview on Arise TV while addressing allegations of accidental civilian casualties in Zamfara State.
Musa assured that strict protocols are followed before any airstrike, noting that secondary explosions from insurgents’ weapon storage might inadvertently affect civilians. He urged communities to exercise patience and allow military investigations to verify air incident outcomes.
Responding to accusations of civilian harm, Musa highlighted the tactic shift by terrorists, who now impregnate women to sustain their ranks after losing territorial control. He expressed concern over the future risks posed by these children, many of whom have surrendered alongside their parents.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force has deployed a team led by Director Edward Gabkwet to Zamfara to assess the recent airstrikes. The investigation aims to provide a comprehensive report and guide necessary actions.
