In Kwaku village, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Gambo Iliya has been apprehended by local vigilantes on suspicion of stealing a neighbour’s goat. The incident occurred on Saturday around 2:30 PM when the suspect reportedly entered the compound of Danladi, the goat’s owner, while he and his family were away working on their farm.
Isaac Ishaku, a member of the community’s vigilante group, explained, “When Danladi and his family returned from the farm late in the evening, they discovered that their goat was missing. Danladi immediately raised an alarm.” According to Ishaku, the suspect had already untied the goat and secured it in an uncompleted building in the neighbourhood.
“He took the stolen goat to the wrong person in the market,” Ishaku said, “and when the buyer suspected it was stolen, he reported it to the vigilantes who quickly moved to apprehend him.” The goat was later identified by its owner at the village market, and Gambo Iliya was subsequently manhandled by an angry mob before the vigilantes handed him over to the police.
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokeswoman for the FCT police command, noted that they were not yet informed about the incident, emphasizing the need for vigilantism to remain within legal boundaries.
The arrested suspect now faces legal consequences for his actions.
