Police Nab AEDC Staff, 5 Others for Transformer Theft.

Operatives of the federal capital territory (FCT) police command, have arrested one (1) Abuja Electricity Distribution company (AEDC) staff and five (5) other accomplices for allegedly vandalizing and stealing a transformer.

The suspects are Kabiru Muhammed, Aliyu Usman, Abdulmalik Alhassan, Shafi’u Suleiman, Suleiman Ibrahim, and Raymond Mailabari, who is the AEDC staff.

The suspects, police say, were trying to escape with an already vandalized transformer they had loaded on a crane truck in Maitama area of Abuja, when police operatives swooped in and apprehended them.

The vandalized transformer, a crane truck, a blue-colored Mercedes Benz with registration number PKN 497 XA, a white-colored j5 bus with registration number RBC 228 XC, and an ash-colored Peugeot 406 car with registration number GSN 13 AA were all recovered from the suspects.

In a statement announcing the arrests, the spokesperson for the FCT command, SP Josephine Adeh, wrote “The operatives of the FCT Police Command, on April 11, 2024, at about 10:45p., acting on credible intelligence, trailed and arrested six suspects, namely Kabiru Muhammed, Aliyu Usman, Abdulmalik Alhassan, Shafi’u Suleiman, Suleiman Ibrahim, and Raymond Mailabari, who is an AEDC staff member, all males of Tipper Garage, Mpape, Abuja, for vandalising and stealing a transformer.

“The suspects were trying to escape with an already vandalised transformer they had loaded on a crane truck in Maitama when police operatives swooped in and apprehended them.

“The vandalised transformer, a crane truck, a blue Mercedes Benz with number plate. PKN 497 XA, a white J5 bus with number plate RBC 228 XC, and an ash Peugeot 406 car with the number plate. GSN 13 AA belonging to the AEDC staff member were all recovered.”
