The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended popular Kannywood actress Samba M. Inuwa, citing breaches of its regulations, including indecent dressing and the posting of vulgar content. The board has also revoked her operating license.
In a statement signed by the board’s Information Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, it was disclosed that the actress had been repeatedly warned about her inappropriate dressing and public conduct, which allegedly contravened the board’s guidelines. Despite these warnings, she reportedly continued to disregard the rules, prompting the board to take decisive action.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, prohibits Samha from appearing in any films for the next 12 months. Furthermore, the board has nullified her operating licenses and halted the approval process for any films featuring her.
The decision follows multiple complaints from concerned citizens in Kano, who expressed dissatisfaction with the actress’s conduct, deeming it contrary to the cultural and ethical standards upheld by the board.
The board’s leadership, under Abba Al-Mustapha, stated that the move aligns with its renewed commitment to restore discipline and uphold moral values within the Hausa film industry. The suspension is seen as a step toward ensuring that the industry reflects the cultural and societal norms of the region.
