The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has stated that his administration will not reinstate the teachers who were illegally employed and later suspended by the Nasarawa State Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Governor Sule made this declaration while addressing members of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its chairman, Reverend Sunday Emma. During the meeting, Reverend Emma appealed to the governor to reconsider and absorb the dismissed teachers.

In response, Governor Sule explained that many of the affected teachers lacked the required qualifications, with some allegedly securing their positions through bribery.

“You are asking me to absorb them. Reverend, let’s consider this from two perspectives. I am not saying I want to create problems for anyone. However, I was informed that some of these individuals who paid bribes are unqualified to teach. Some were said to have paid as much as 700,000 to 600,000 naira to secure these jobs. These are positions where they would earn less than 100,000 naira. If we allow this, we are not helping our educational system,” Governor Sule clarified.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s efforts to improve the state’s education sector. He revealed that, in 2019, he commissioned a team of education experts to survey schools across the state. Their findings indicated that many schools were in deplorable condition.

Following this, Governor Sule said his government had rehabilitated the identified schools and approved the recruitment of 1,000 qualified teachers to strengthen the state’s education sector.
