The Supreme Court has struck out a suit filed by the 36 state governments and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) challenging the federal government’s handling of N1.8 trillion recovered from looted funds.
In a unanimous ruling on Friday, the court said the matter was wrongly filed before the Supreme Court and should have been taken to the Federal High Court.
The states had accused the federal government of diverting the recovered funds and assets into an account not recognised by the constitution, instead of paying them into the Federation Account.
They also sought a court order to compel the federal government to disclose how the assets were recovered and shared. However, the court declined jurisdiction and struck out the case.
