The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favour of President Donald Trump, giving him more power to carry out executive orders without being blocked by lower courts.
The decision means that Trump’s plan to end automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants can now move forward, at least for now.
Speaking at the White House, Trump called it a “big win” for the Constitution and said it would stop people from “taking advantage of America’s immigration system.”
The ruling also makes it easier for Trump to push through other policies that had been delayed by federal judges. These include changes to immigration rules, foreign aid, and government programmes.
Although states and courts can still challenge some of these policies in the future, Friday’s decision gives the president — and those after him — more time and freedom to act on big issues before the courts step in.
