The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill seeking to strip the Vice President, Governors, and their deputies of immunity from prosecution.

Sponsored by Rep. Solomon Bob, the bill aims to enhance accountability in public office by amending Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution. If enacted, only the President will retain immunity from civil or criminal proceedings.

The bill was among 42 constitutional amendment proposals debated at Wednesday’s plenary and has been referred to the House Committee on Constitution Review for further consideration.
