The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will sanction members accused of working against the party by supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Party sources told Weekend Trust that the move is part of wider political negotiations, which also include talks with Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, Peter Obi, on possibly joining the PDP.
Those on the watchlist include FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who has openly backed Tinubu despite being a PDP member and serving in an APC-led government. Others are former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, who recently endorsed Tinubu while wearing PDP attire, and Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke, whose state chapter also declared support for Tinubu.
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the development as a serious concern. South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee chairman Emmanuel Ogidi said the party’s leadership will decide Wike’s fate and that of others in the coming week.
