The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says Lassa fever has killed 145 people in 2025, with 766 confirmed cases across 18 states.
Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba and Ebonyi account for 91% of the cases, with Ondo alone recording 31%.
The NCDC blames the rising death toll on late treatment, poor hygiene and unsafe living conditions.
It has deployed emergency teams to 10 states and is urging Nigerians to stay alert, avoid rats, and seek medical help if they notice symptoms like fever or bleeding.
