The federal government is working to lower food prices by boosting agricultural production, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris has said.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, he explained that instead of imposing price controls, the government aims to increase supply, which will naturally reduce costs.

“In a free market, prices drop when there’s enough supply. That’s why we’re prioritizing large-scale food production,” he said.

Idris also highlighted security gains, stating that over 8,000 terrorists and bandits were eliminated in 2024, while 11,600 suspects were arrested. He added that economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, have saved billions and improved investor confidence.

He described 2025 as a year to consolidate the progress made under President Tinubu’s administration.
