A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has granted bail to Prof. Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), who is facing corruption charges.
Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu ordered Yusuf’s release from Kuje Correctional Centre on Thursday after meeting bail conditions.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Yusuf of approving an inflated vehicle purchase and awarding fraudulent contracts while heading the NHIA in 2016.
The defendant pleaded not guilty, with his lawyer arguing for bail, while the EFCC opposed it, citing fears he might flee due to his political influence.
