Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have killed two vigilantes and ten firewood gatherers in Bokko Ghide community, Gwoza LGA of Borno State.
Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed the attack, saying the victims were ambushed while fetching firewood and during patrols. Two others who survived with injuries were taken to Maiduguri for treatment.
The Emir praised the victims’ sacrifices and called for more military support, including drones and advanced technology, to tackle insecurity as the rainy season approaches.
The attack happened two days after the Defence Minister and top military chiefs visited Borno to assess the security situation. They promised more manpower and equipment to help stop the rising attacks.
