An Army Captain and a soldier were killed when Boko Haram fighters attacked Izge, a community in Gwoza LGA of Borno State, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed the attack, saying the terrorists struck around 1 a.m. but were repelled by security forces. “A Captain and a soldier lost their lives. But our gallant troops, the Civilian JTF, hunters, and vigilantes killed three terrorists. They fled, abandoning weapons and over 10 motorcycles,” he said.
The Emir prayed for the fallen and thanked Governor Babagana Zulum for supporting security operatives. He also called on the federal government to strengthen troops with modern warfare technology.
The attack follows a similar incident in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, where four soldiers were killed just days after North East governors met to discuss security strategies.
