Armed bandits, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect have reportedly abducted a high court judge in Borno. The judge, identified as Justice Haruna Mshelia, his wife, driver and orderly were all reportedly taken by the suspected terrorists along the dreaded Biu-Maiduguri Road.

A security expert with knowledge of the area, Zagazola Makama, said “As they approached a curve in the road between Burutai and Buni-Gari, a group of armed men emerged from the bushes, their weapons blazing and barricaded the road.

“The judge’s vehicle screeched to a halt, then attempted to maneuver its way to escape. In the chaos that ensued, Justice Mshelia’s vehicle was stopped by another team of insurgents,” he said.

The terrorists later took them hostage and reportedly whisked them into the Sambisa Forest.

The spokesman, Borno state police command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the report, saying the abduction occurred on June 21, 2024, at about 9am along Biu-Maiduguri Road, specifically at Jiba town.

He said there had not been contacts from the terror group yet, but the police are exploring options for the safe rescue of the hostages.
