Some suspected bandits allegedly shot and killed a driver, identified as Danladi Jobe, made away with the sum of ₦1 million and abducted two others near Jere town, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Monday.
A resident of Jere, Yahuza Alhassan, confirmed the incident to reporters. Mr. Alhassan said the unfortunate incident happened around 9:33 pm at Dogon-Fili village, just few kilometers away from Jere town.
He said the deceased was returning from neighboring village market where he conveyed bags of pepper alongside the owner to sell, in which he said the bandits suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the car, killing the driver instantly.
Alhassan, who also identified one of the victims as Shuaibu whom he said is a farmer was whisked away alongside one other person after bandits took away approximately ₦1 million cash from him.
“The bandits, after killing the driver, now went after the man, who is a farmer and dispossessed him of ₦980,000 cash before they now whisked him away alongside one other person from the car into the bush,” he said.
A similar incident was reported to have occurred last week when suspected bandits opened fire on a commuter Hiace bus near Gadan-Malam along the same highway and whisked travelers on board into the bush.
The spokesman of the Kaduna state police command DSP Mansur Hassan is yet to comment on the incident.
