FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has announced a major reduction in the land allocated to the University of Abuja—from 11,000 to 4,000 hectares.
Speaking at the commissioning of new access roads in Giri District, Wike said the university had taken more land than approved, without proper documents. “You see them fencing everywhere. Before you know it, they start selling the land,” he said.
He directed the FCT Land Department to limit the university’s allocation to 4,000 hectares. The rest, he said, will be used for other developments in the area.
Wike also revealed that internal roads will soon be constructed in Giri, and promised that essential infrastructure like water and electricity will follow to attract more development.
He noted that the newly built roads will allow the EFCC Academy in the area to start operations, adding, “Now that they can move their equipment in, work will begin.”
The minister hinted at plans to work with the National Assembly to bring more institutions to the area, assuring full support for land and infrastructure.
