FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says he will lead President Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Rivers State—even while remaining in the opposition PDP.
“I’ve said it before. I’ll be leading his campaign in Rivers. Why do you want me to deny it?” he said during a media chat in Abuja on Monday.
Wike, a former Rivers governor, openly backed Tinubu in 2023, defying PDP lines after falling out with the party leadership. His latest remarks have reignited calls for his expulsion, with party elder Sule Lamido vowing to boycott PDP meetings until Wike is removed.
Despite the backlash, Wike insists he’s still PDP. “Who has done more for the party than me?” he asked.
Analysts say his dual loyalty is weakening the opposition. “He’s damaging the PDP from within,” said political commentator Dr Sam Amadi.
