Why Ganduje Resigned as APC National Chairman

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stepped down as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with sources suggesting he was pressured to resign.

Although he reportedly cited health reasons, insiders say his resignation was tied to political plans ahead of the 2027 elections. A top security official was said to have visited his home early Friday to collect his resignation letter.

The move is believed to be linked to efforts to bring former Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, back into the APC. Kwankwaso, who has a long-standing rivalry with Ganduje, had reportedly insisted on Ganduje’s removal before rejoining the party.

Ganduje’s exit also answers the call of North Central APC leaders who have been demanding the chairmanship return to their zone, where the previous chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, came from.

With Ganduje out, attention has turned to possible replacements from the North Central region, including Senators Tanko Al-Makura, George Akume, and Mohammed Sani Musa.

For now, Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori, is expected to take over in acting capacity until the party holds its convention in November.
