The White House blocked an Associated Press (AP) reporter from covering an Oval Office event, citing the agency’s refusal to follow its editorial stance, AP reported on Wednesday.
According to AP, the White House warned that if the agency did not align its style with President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” access to the event would be denied. AP executive editor Julie Pace condemned the move, calling it a violation of press freedom.
The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) also criticized the decision, stating that barring journalists over editorial choices is unacceptable. Meanwhile, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum dismissed Trump’s order, asserting that “for us and the world, it remains the Gulf of Mexico.”
