‘We have the right to gather and celebrate,’ Natasha defends Kogi trip

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has defended her recent trip to her hometown in Kogi State, despite a ban imposed by the state government on convoys, public gatherings, and rallies.

According to Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, the ban was implemented following an intelligence report regarding security threats in the state.

Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived in Kogi Central via helicopter on Tuesday and met with her supporters, who were eager to receive her.

Addressing her supporters, Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that her visit was to be with her constituents and celebrate Sallah with them. She emphasized that her presence was not for campaign purposes or any political reason, asserting that she broke no law.

“Yesterday, when we heard on the news that rallies and gatherings would not be allowed, that roads would be blocked, and convoys leading into the state would be prohibited, I knew we were the targets. But then I thought, this is not a political season, and this is not campaign time.

“We are not having a rally. This is just me, the Senator representing Kogi Central, coming to be with my people to celebrate this festive time – Sallah – with you, and there is nothing wrong with that. I am breaking no law. This is Nigeria. We have the right to be free and to express our choice in gatherings and celebrations,” she stated.
