The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has raised concern over the rising cases of vandalism on its facilities, saying incidents have increased by more than 30 percent in recent years.

The General Manager of TCN, Benin Region, Engr. Charles Iwuamadi, disclosed this during a sensitisation programme at Umelu community in Edo State. He said vandalism is one of the major causes of frequent national grid collapses and disruptions in electricity supply.

According to him, the destruction of transmission lines and other facilities has been “on the rampage” and continues to threaten stable power supply nationwide.

Iwuamadi also warned residents against building or living under high-tension lines, stressing that such encroachment poses serious health hazards and the risk of instant death if power lines snap.

He commended Umelu community for supporting TCN along the Benin–Onitsha transmission line and urged residents to continue their cooperation to safeguard power infrastructure.
