US to Check Immigrants’ Social Media for Antisemitic, Extremist Content

The United States has introduced a new immigration policy that includes screening visa applicants’ social media activity for antisemitic content and support for extremist groups.

The Department of Homeland Security says the measure targets those who promote or endorse violent ideologies linked to groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, or Yemen’s Houthis. It affects applicants for student visas, Green Cards, and those connected to institutions flagged for antisemitic actions.

“Anyone who thinks they can come to America and hide behind free speech to promote anti-Semitic violence—think again,” said DHS official Tricia McLaughlin.

Authorities say the move is aimed at national security, not religion. But rights groups warn it could be used to suppress pro-Palestinian views or stifle legitimate criticism of Israeli policies.
