The US government has launched an investigation into how past foreign aid to Nigeria was used, following claims that funds may have reached terrorist groups, including Boko Haram.
This comes after US President, Donald Trump, suspended all foreign aid for 90 days on January 20, 2025. US Congressman Scott Perry alleged that USAID’s $697 million annual health funding was misused to support extremist groups.
The US Mission to Nigeria, however, stated that strict monitoring systems are in place to track aid and reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism alongside Nigeria and regional partners.
