US Adds Social Media Check to Nigerian Visa Process

The United States Mission in Nigeria has introduced a new requirement for Nigerians seeking non-immigrant visas — applicants must now provide details of their social media use over the last five years.

The mission made the announcement on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday.

According to the statement, applicants are expected to include all social media usernames or handles they have used within that period when filling out the DS-160 visa application form.

It further explained that before submitting the form, applicants must confirm that all the information provided is accurate. Leaving out social media details, the embassy warned, could lead to a visa refusal and may also affect eligibility for future applications.

The DS-160 form is the standard online application for most categories of US non-immigrant visas, such as business (B-1), tourism (B-2), student visas (F and M), and work-related visas like the H-1B.
