UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office in Bauchi, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, has revealed that around 54,000 children in the state suffer from malnutrition.
Speaking at an advocacy meeting in Jos, she warned that three in 10 children face severe malnutrition, while six in 10 are moderately affected and at risk of worsening conditions.
“In Bauchi alone, around 54,000 children are malnourished. Three out of 10 suffer from severe malnutrition, while six out of 10 are moderately malnourished. These moderately malnourished children are at risk of becoming severely malnourished at any time,” she said.
She also noted that 13 LGAs in Bauchi have children who have never received a single vaccine. While commending the state government’s efforts, she urged more action to tackle malnutrition at the community level.
