The United Nations has reported the tragic loss of over 200 children in Lebanon since September, amid intensified Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah. James Elder, UNICEF spokesperson, highlighted the alarming trend during a press briefing, condemning the global inaction to halt the violence.

“On average, three children are killed every day, with over 1,100 injured in just two months,” Elder stated, drawing comparisons to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The conflict erupted after Hezbollah launched rockets in solidarity with Hamas, leading to retaliatory bombings by Israel.

Lebanese authorities report over 3,510 fatalities since the clashes began, with extensive civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, severely impacted. Elder emphasized the disproportionate attacks and the escalating toll on health workers, with over 200 killed and 300 injured.

He warned against desensitization to these atrocities, stating, “The intolerable is becoming acceptable, and the appalling is slipping into the expected.”
