The United Kingdom has shown support for Morocco’s plan to give Western Sahara some self-rule. They believe this plan is a good and realistic way to solve the long-standing conflict over the area.

This was announced in a statement signed in Rabat by the UK’s Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, and Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita.

The UK said it will keep working closely with Morocco to help bring peace and stability to the region. They also said they are ready to fund development projects there through a big £5 billion investment program.

Both countries confirmed they support the United Nations’ efforts to find a solution, including the work of the UN’s special envoy, Staffan de Mistura. The UK, which is a key member of the UN Security Council, emphasised that it’s very important to find a permanent solution soon.
