UAE Bans Transit Visas, Tightens Entry Rules for Nigerians

The UAE has introduced stricter visa rules for Nigerians, halting all transit visa applications and placing new conditions on tourist visas. The changes, communicated to travel agents this Tuesday, will significantly limit travel to the Emirates, especially Dubai.

Key updates include:

  • No transit visas for Nigerian travellers.
  • Nigerian nationals ages 18–45 travelling alone are now ineligible for tourist visas.
  • Applicants 45 and older must submit a 6-month personal bank statement showing a minimum USD 10,000balance each month, in addition to standard documents like hotel bookings and ID pages.

These new measures follow last year’s lifting of a two-year visa ban, which already came with tight restrictions. Travel agents warn these rules will further suppress Nigerian traffic to the UAE’s top tourism and business hub.
