Tragedy struck the Abakpa area of Kaduna State on Tuesday when an explosion claimed the lives of two children and left three others injured.

The victims include 13-year-old Imam and six-year-old Nasrin, both residents of the neighbourhood. The blast occurred near the old site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), jolting the community and sending residents into panic.

Though the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be confirmed, security operatives have since cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

A resident, who witnessed the aftermath but asked not to be named, told Trust TV that he was bathing when he heard the loud sound.

“It happened very close to my house. I ran out immediately and saw Imam badly injured. I rushed him to the hospital, but he didn’t make it,” he said.

The incident has thrown the entire community into mourning, with many residents still reeling from the shock. Security presence has since increased in the area as investigations continue.

More details will be provided as they emerge.
