Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar has explained the recent clash with Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed and his deputy, Muhammad Auwal Jatau.

During Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s visit to Bauchi on April 19, Governor Bala insulted Tuggar’s late father and threatened to slap him inside a bus. Tuggar stood his ground, and though the Deputy Governor also threatened him, no one made physical contact.

Rumours that Jatau slapped Tuggar were false, Tuggar said, blaming the governor’s son for spreading them online.

Tuggar linked the dispute to disagreements over the state’s handling of farmland, accusing the government of giving lands to companies instead of supporting farmers and herders.

While Tuggar hasn’t officially declared a 2027 governorship run, many see him as a leading contender.
