The military has escalated coordinated air and ground offensives against the Lakurawa armed group, forcing its members to retreat from strongholds in Kebbi and Sokoto states.
This follows a deadly attack by the group on Mera community in Augie LGA, Kebbi, resulting in 17 casualties. In response, the army deployed reinforcements, who met with Deputy Governor Abubakar Umar Tafida before advancing to dislodge the bandits and recover stolen livestock.
Kebbi’s Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, had urgently requested federal assistance, pledging to restore safety. National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, vowed to eradicate the group, asserting that intensified efforts are already yielding positive results, including enhanced crude oil production and fiscal reforms under President Tinubu’s administration.
Ribadu stated: “We will drive out Lukarawa and silence the critics. Boko Haram is now fleeing; we’re seeing clear progress in stabilizing the country.”
