A Magistrates’ Court in Jos has sentenced Zih Davou, a trader, to 18 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing a he-goat from a man’s home.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos issued the ruling on Wednesday, offering the convict the option of a ₦50,000 fine in lieu of a year in prison, along with a compensation payment of ₦50,000 or an additional six months imprisonment.
Prosecutor Insp. Ijuptil Thiawur told the court that the theft occurred on August 19 and was reported by the goat’s owner, Fawole Ayodeji, at the “B” Division police station.
Thiawur disclosed that Davou broke into the complainant’s home, stealing a goat valued at ₦100,000. He added that the convict had previously been arrested for stealing rice, fertilizer, and zinc from the same household.
