Tottenham Hotspur has filed an appeal against the seven-match domestic suspension handed to midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur for making a racist remark about teammate Son Heung-min. The club described the Football Association’s punishment as “severe.”
While acknowledging the independent regulatory commission’s guilty verdict, Spurs confirmed that Bentancur was fined £100,000 and mandated to attend a face-to-face education program.
The incident occurred during a June television interview in Uruguay when Bentancur made the controversial comment, leading to his charge by the FA in September. Tottenham has requested a review of the ban’s duration.
