President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit seeking to compel the National Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against him over alleged rights violations.

The suit, filed by lawyer Olukoya Ogungbeje, claims the government’s crackdown on peaceful protests between August 1 and 10, 2024, amounts to an impeachable offence.

In response, Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, challenged the case, arguing that the plaintiff lacks the legal right to sue on behalf of unnamed individuals. They urged the court to strike out the case, calling it incompetent.

Justice James Omotosho has adjourned the case to March 4 for further proceedings.
