President Bola Tinubu has gifted each player of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, $100,000, national honours, and a flat for winning the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.

The announcement was made Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the team was hosted in recognition of their historic win. Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President, praised the players for making the country proud.

Also in attendance were First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.

D’Tigress defeated Mali 78–64 in the final played in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, clinching their fifth straight Afrobasket title and seventh overall.

The gesture comes a week after a similar reward was given to the Super Falcons following their WAFCON victory in Morocco.
