Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), on Saturday said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing his best to advance Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
The elder statesman spoke at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after a closed-door meeting with the President.
Speaking with journalists, Gowon said Tinubu was making efforts across key sectors, including politics, the economy and security.
“As far as it goes, isn’t he doing the best he can all round? Political, economic, social and of course the major problem that we have today, security. He’s doing everything to deal with that for the good of Nigeria,” he said.
On areas he would like the President to improve, Gowon said the government must continue to focus on all sectors.
“There is no particular place. He has to look after the interests of Nigeria in all areas,” he said.
Explaining the purpose of his visit to the State House, Gowon said he came to appreciate the President for his efforts in steering the country.
“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he’s doing for the country. We looked at the progress that Nigeria is making economically and otherwise,” he said.
He added that the government was making efforts to tackle the security challenges facing the country.
“The major problem that we have today is security, and he’s doing everything he can to deal with it for the good of Nigeria and all Nigerians,” Gowon said.
According to him, addressing the nation’s challenges requires the leadership of the federal government.
“The problem that is happening today, it is only the government, Mr President, that can rally and deal with it, and he is doing the best he can without creating any problem for the country,” he added.
