President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
The ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, following a meeting between the President, Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the newly appointed administrator.
This follows Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly.
The President appointed Ibas to oversee the state’s affairs for six months, assuring that the judiciary would continue to function. “For the avoidance of doubt, this declaration does not affect the judicial arm of Rivers State, which shall continue to function in accordance with its constitutional mandate,” Tinubu stated.
