The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that 32 cows were struck dead by lightning during a thunderstorm in the Osara community of Odeda Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta. She said the tragic incident occurred around 4:40pm on Saturday, June 21, following a heavy downpour.
According to her, two herders in the area reported to the Aregbe Divisional Police Headquarters that the cows were found lifeless in a nearby forest after the storm.
Police say investigations suggest the cows were likely killed by a lightning strike during the rainstorm. Authorities added that no foul play was suspected at the time of reporting.
